Woodrow Retirement Home is located in an area of Torquay known as the Lincombes, situated at the junction of Asheldon Road and Babbacombe Road, within the Lincombes Conservation Area.

Woodrow is a late 19th-century detached Victorian villa, set within its own well-maintained gardens with level access suitable for people with mobility needs. The building is designed in the Italianate style and features a number of classical architectural details, including pilasters and dentil cornices. The property has been sympathetically adapted and enhanced to meet the needs of residents while retaining its original character.

The home is level throughout and benefits from off-street parking. It is within walking distance of Wellswood Village, which offers a range of local amenities including shops, a post office, pharmacy, public house, restaurants and the Church of St Matthias. Woodrow is also located on a main Torquay bus route, with bus stops directly outside the home.

Woodrow provides 24-hour residential care and has 19 single bedrooms, the majority of which have en-suite shower facilities. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms to create a comfortable and familiar living space. All rooms are decorated and furnished with residents’ safety, mobility and comfort in mind.

 

All bedrooms are centrally heated, have digital television points and are fitted with a call bell system to ensure residents can summon assistance when needed.

The home offers unrestricted visiting times and is supported by a range of visiting professionals, including healthcare practitioners, hairdressers and chiropodists. Representatives from local churches visit regularly. A programme of activities is available, including reminiscence sessions, arts and crafts, quizzes and therapeutic exercise sessions.

Bathrooms and shower facilities are adapted to support people with disabilities. The home is equipped with appropriate lifting and bathing aids, including hoists and assisted shower equipment, to meet individual needs. All equipment is regularly serviced, maintained and certified in line with current regulations.

Woodrow has a full fire detection and alarm system, which is regularly maintained and complies with fire safety regulations.
