Meals & Nutrition

Woodrow Retirement Home is committed to providing healthy, nutritious and varied meals that are homely, appetising and prepared using fresh, seasonal produce.

Residents’ likes, dislikes and individual dietary requirements are always respected, and residents are encouraged to express their preferences and choices. Special diets and modified textures are provided where required.

Light snacks and refreshments are available throughout the day.

Mealtimes are relaxed and sociable occasions. Family members and friends are welcome to join residents for lunch or afternoon tea; advance notice to the home is requested to assist with arrangements.

Where residents require support with eating and drinking, sensitive and respectful assistance is provided by trained care staff. All staff involved in supporting residents at mealtimes receive appropriate training in food hygiene and safe nutrition.

Where residents have swallowing difficulties (dysphagia), meals and drinks are provided in line with individual care plans, risk assessments and professional guidance, including modified food textures and thickened fluids where required.

Nutrition and hydration are given a high priority at Woodrow. Residents’ weights are monitored regularly, and any significant weight gain or loss is appropriately investigated and, where necessary, discussed with the resident’s GP to ensure suitable action is taken.
